How Your Body Is Affected By Poor Diet Choices

You just want to get through the day. Your toddler woke you up 3 times (or more) last night and you don’t have the time, patience, or energy to plan actual meals throughout the day. You eat what is easy and fast and move on to the next thing you’re doing on automatic pilot. You hit a wall late afternoon and deserve a treat for getting this far today. In comes chocolate/candy bar/hard candy, etc.

What happens to your body when eating a poor diet

Your pancreas releases a hormone called insulin when you eat sugar. Insulin helps your body bring sugar into the cells as energy. This sounds like a great thing. However, the more insulin that is released, the more your blood sugar drops, and you become tired and cranky, the opposite of what you intended eating that mid-day candy bar (Sands, 2022).

Sugar also increases cortisol levels, the stress hormone. We just read how that turns out when we read about over-caffeinating.

Lastly, sugar increases inflammation in our bodies. Inflammation is responsible for a whole slew of problems from disease, chronic health issues, and hormone imbalance.
